The Designer Instinct !!

Just the other day while cleaning my cupboard I came accross an old purse (handbag).. Though I had never used it, with time the silk had faded. It looked pathchy, old-fashioned and plain. I was about to donate it away..but suddenly the designer instinct took over me.. "How about a splash of creativity ??"

Within moments ideas sprang in my mind and I started collecting stuff for decorating it. I didn't think of any concrete design or pattern. Currently, Swarovski, crystals are in fashion.. you see them everywhere on jewellery , clothes, crockery, watches, slippers.. So why not my handbang ? I bought some colored crystals, some golden sparklers , glitters and stones in different shapes, colors.

First thing was to hide the flaws on the old purse and second was to add style to it. I had confidence that any abstract pattern would also look good. I arranged the Swarovski crystals , glitters in different arrangements. My aim was to create something modern , elegant and shimmering. With the festive season in air, I knew this style would look great with variety of dresses.. be it ethnic Indian or casual denim.

I designed the purse in bits and pieces. When a portion of design pattern seemed to be nice, I would fix it permanently and neatly with Fevibond. This required patience and keeness. Very carefully you pick each stone or crystal and fix it neatly. Sometimes while placing the crystal it would drop at some unwanted location and only thing you could do is to rethink the pattern around the newly dropped object... So you keep changing the design on the fly, giving lot of flexibility and hence creating a dynamic art.

Slowly, the different portions of designs and patterns started giving a new look. I finally, connected these abstract patterns with small sequences like adding golden leaves to the Red flower, and droplets around it.

The golden beads and glitters alongwith swarovski crystals added life to my old silk purse. The designer instinct within me gave birth to a new fashionable object which is my new accessory and a fashion statement. This pink silken purse pairs up well with skirts, jeans.. It certainly, looks stunning in parties and eye-catching in market places. Who could even tell it was ever worn-out or faded?

The designer instinct within a creative mind not only helped to create something innovative, stylish and useful, but also made me hit the fashion street !!
